What happens when you let Dennis Guichard loose with his camera in a hundred year plus old Trappist compound, filled with ancient relics? Well…..pretty much what happens mostly……he takes pictures of things and angles that inspire him. Our recent Kings Grant shoot was no different. Dennis captured these beautiful images of ancient tools, implements and workshops. Absolutely stunning!

GAD by MMW Architects

How cool is a portable art gallery that can literally be erected anywhere? GAD is the brainchild of Norwegian architects MMW. The structure comprises of 10 shipping containers. Five of them make up the ground floor. Three surrounds the central first floor and the final two closes the building and gives access to the top floor balcony. The spaces are connected with industrial ladders and staircases. Inside the spaces are painted white, providing a seamless backdrop to the art on display. We do believe this is quite brilliant!

Well our usual “behind the scenes” was a little different than usual this past weekend. Normally I take pictures of Dennis Guichard taking pictures. But the pressence of my other half ensured pictures of me, taking pictures of Dennis, taking pictures – phew a mouthful! Our TOP SECRET location was of course the beautiful King’s Grant Country Retreat in Ixopo, which I absolutely fell in love with after visiting it in December 2011 (blogged before). Again Cheryl Biggs and her wonderful staff ensured an unforgetable stay and delish cuisine for the Safintra Team. Thanking you kindly Cheryl! We are SUPER excited to see the sensational photography Dennis is bound to produce!

Something that we’ve learnt on the road to shooting the Great South African Architecture campaign, is that you’ve got to take what the weather throws at you…..It doesn’t mean that we are blatantly oblivious to the forecast though. We anxiously observe so we know what to expect. And this week we have been doing just that…..anxiously observing. The doom and gloom predictions started on Monday already and continued right through the week and this morning instead of waking up to it raining cats and dogs, the SUN IS OUT Let’s hope it stays that way…..I am taking my gumboots to Ixopo just in case
