Whenever I am in the area, I always stop off at the charming 68 on Main in Howick. This enchanting little corrugated gem on Howick’s Main Road offers the best coutry fare in the district. The little house dates back to 1869 and is the second oldest existing building in Howick. The owners Carl Freer and Kevin Lucas were sensitive to the building’s restoration after acquiring the property in a terrible state. The dwelling was apparently build either by or for Queen Victoria’s carpenter,’ explains Carl, who laughs and goes on to say, ‘If he did build it, it’s no wonder that he was sent all the way to Howick – as there isn’t a straight wall in the place’.
When you’re in the area, pull in, it’s well worth a visit!
