Steel Awards 2012 – The Winners

Very exciting event on the annual steel industry calendar, the Steel Awards, hosted by the South African Institute of Steel Construction was held simultaneously at Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng, the Durban Botanic Gardens in KwaZulu Natal and at Kirstenbosch in the Cape, on September 6 th  2012. The winners are as follows:

The overall winner of Steel Awards 2012 were the giant chimneys at the Medupi Power Station in Limpopo, which also won the Mining and Industrial category prize.

Breaking with tradition this year, the judges elected to combine the historically distinct “Architectural” and “Light Steel Frame Building” (LSFB) categories, and presented the combined award to the Boogertman + Partners Architects-designed Deloitte Head Office, situated at the Riverwalk Office Park in Pretoria.

The Architectural Commendation at this year’s awards went to a dwelling in Westcliff, Johannesburg – continuing the long tradition of award-winning architectural structures to be built on the Westcliff Ridge.
